Witness

Witness

By Andrew Hirl – Formation Coordinator

We have all heard the phrase in one form or another that our actions speak louder than our words. As Catholics, the Church calls all of us to be witnesses to the truth taught to us by Jesus Christ. We are to witness to the love and mercy of the Church. We witness through the words we say, the actions we do, and the choices we make, and just as the phrase says our actions speak louder than our world. The way we live and act in our daily lives will witness to the love of Christ in our hearts.

How do we do this in our daily lives?

We can first look at the Gospel for last week. Christ said, “you have heard it said to love your neighbor and hate your enemies, but I say to you: love your enemies” Listening to the love of Christ, we are called to love everyone, no matter how they treat us. Father in his homily last week said that in our world to today we don’t really have enemies. However, we have those who grind our gears or make us upset. Love these people and show them mercy.

The second and best way to witness is to know your story. The Lord works in completely different ways in each and every one of us. Everyone has a different story of the works of the Lord in their life. Look back in your life, see where the Lord has been working in your life, and learn your story. Nothing is a stronger testimonial than telling someone who asks the story of how the Lord has worked in your life. Whether your story is trusting in the Church from the time you were little or a complete turnaround. Each story is a wonderful and powerful witness to the love of the world.

What actions can you take to show people what you believe in?
